Robert S. Ensler Presents "My Mom"

Elaine, FINALLY realized her DREAMS.
It was during her "mid-life crisis" years. She was in her 'mid-forties' and decided to audition for a play in the San Francisco, CA. This was no ordinary play, but a West Coast Premiere of a multiple Tony Award winning Musical called "Milk and Honey". The character she auditioned for almost fit her like a glove. The character was a middle-aged widowed Jewish woman traveling to Israel with a bunch of other widowed Jewish women...looking for a new husband. The character was originally played by Molly Picon in the Broadway production. Elaine had a HUGE "set of shoes" to attempt to fill.
She got the part !!
This production was a bit unique. The theater was designed as a "theater-in-the-round". The seats completely wrapped around the stage. It was a stage directors nightmare & a huge challenge to choreograph the production for this unique venue.
For 2-3 months, prior to opening, it was a constant rehearsal. I volunteered to "read lines" with her so she could learn her part. I eventually became so familiar with the most of the libretto AND ALL the songs, when I went to see her perform, I knew what was coming next.
The Musical received such "rave reviews", the "run" lasted for NINE months! Every weekend she would drive across the Oakland-San Francisco Bridge to perform three performances per weekend.
MOM LOVED IT!!
This crazy "mid-life crisis" audition became the launching point for her entry into her lifetime passion...THEATER! For the last twenty-five+ years of her life, Elaine Ensler lived her DREAM. (The irony of this is that MY "Dreams" were extremely similar to my Mom's. SEE: www.ENSLER.com
